Your First Steps and What to Expect

At your initial appointment, we start with lab-grade pregnancy testing. A false positive test at home is possible, even with common pregnancy symptoms, including a late or missed period or morning sickness. A lab-grade test can give a stronger indicator that you are pregnant and hCG levels are rising.
We can answer your questions about abortion, what to expect, and side effects. You can also discuss your health history and any additional steps that may be needed prior to an abortion, like STI testing or IUD removal.
If you are pregnant, we can schedule an ultrasound to verify the location of the pregnancy (if the pregnancy is ectopic, an abortion could be fatal), how far along you are (which can determine the type and price of an abortion), and if the pregnancy is viable (miscarriage is common in the first trimester). This is also provided at no cost to you.
Please note that we believe women deserve to make reproductive health decisions in a place that does not profit from their choice, regardless of the laws, and we do not provide or refer for abortion services. We also offer support after an abortion, or ongoing support, education services, and community referrals to help you access free resources if you continue your pregnancy.
Wilkes Pregnancy Care Center provides services to everyone, regardless of age, gender, income, or immigration status. Your information is always private, and we never report anyone’s status. All patients are welcome, including those without legal documentation. All our services are free and confidential.

We believe women deserve access to all the information they need to make reproductive health decisions without pressure or cost involved, and aid to move forward with confidence.
